Mercury & Colt DCS utilising RealWear to improve safety & sustainability

23 Aug 2021

Mercury delivering Colt DCS Frankfurt West project using RealWear smart camera technology

Mercury will be using the RealWear helmet for Frankfurt West, allowing site-based staff and remote staff to participate together in team meetings, site coordination meetings and periodical health & safety walks. With Mercury’s staff based across over ten countries in EMEA, the ability to work remotely and collaborate across borders has been essential to delivering projects throughout the pandemic where there have been restrictions on global travel for the almost 18 months.

The product will be utilised further as the Frankfurt West project reaches the commissioning stage. RealWear will enable Mercury to seek the assistance of suppliers during the assembly of plant in order to continue delivering a world-class hyperscale data centre for Colt DCS with no disruption due to global events.

What is RealWear?

RealWear is a head-mounted, voice-activated smart tablet that’s designed for use on construction sites. It enables the user to share what they’re seeing via a ‘teams’ call with users all over the world.

Mercury has been piloting RealWear on 11 sites across 10 different countries in Europe to connect our management teams to site. Some applications include remote client walks, safety, and quality audits, FOAK approvals and remote assistance.

Benefits

While travel restrictions have been a catalyst for this project, the use of RealWear can reduce travel requirements long term, offering significant sustainability benefits.

Mercury actively works with its clients, such as Colt DCS, in order to ensure that sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.

Mercury believes that we each have a role to play in contributing to the sustainable development of our planet. With this in mind, Mercury launched Our Planet, Our Duty, a Responsible Business plan. Our Planet, Our Duty is Mercury’s promise to help create a more sustainable environment around us. It forms one of the foundation blocks of Beyond50, Mercury’s five-year plan to push further and take the company beyond its 50th year in business. Read Our Planet, Our Duty here.

Colt DCS builds sustainability and efficiency into its hyperscale data centre designs. We are continually striving to be environmentally and socially responsible by using renewable energy where possible to power our sites. This not only helps us to achieve our own sustainability goals, but also our customers to achieve theirs.
