Sustainability at Frankfurt 3 Data Centre

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.

Sustainability is a top priority for us. At our Colt Frankfurt 3 Data Centre, we are committed to using 100% renewable energy to power this hyperscale facility. Additionally, the site has earned the pre-construction LEED Gold certification, and we are aiming for a biodiversity net gain of at least 10%.

Our commitment to Sustainability at Frankfurt 3 Data Centre

Following our new Global Reference Design (GRD) guidelines, this site is being constructed with several low embodied carbon principles in mind:

Installing low Global Warming Potential (GWP) cooling chillers.

Reducing water waste for cooling.

Ensuring we are ready for highly efficient liquid cooling.

Using Hydro Vegetable Oil (HVO) fuel for backup generators.

Removing the use of Lithium batteries.

Minimising the use of steel and concrete, where possible.

Optimising the Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) infrastructure management.

Controlling and reusing rainwater.

Furthermore, our Colt Frankfurt 3 Data Centre will feature on-site vehicle charging points and solar panels to support ancillary services. We will also create landscaped green areas to positively enhance local biodiversity.

Sustainability is crucial in designing and building future data centres. With climate change being a significant concern for our customers, it's vital to implement measures that reduce both their carbon footprint and ours. At our Colt Frankfurt 3 Data Centre, we are proud to prioritize sustainability.

On launch of phase one and once operational, we will strive to get our Colt Frankfurt 3 Data Centre ISO 14001 certified (environmental management system).

In addition to our Colt Frankfurt 3 Data Centre, we have also achieved an 'A-' score for our 2023 CDP climate submission, and a Platinum Rating with EcoVadis in 2023, which places us in the top 1% of global companies assessed.
